Do you still read BL novels? What languages do you read/understand? :0 what do you think of ‘queer’ literature in the west versus other places? Do you ever read such work?

I read translations of Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Thai BL novels. While I understand a bunch of languages (Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, Urdu, English), I am dyslexic. So reading is anyway difficult.

Since I have been reading for a while now, I can understand Chinese, Korean and Japanese works even when they are not translated well. Over the years, I have learnt enough BL vocabulary and separately learned some of the most common words, popular slang, etc. in those languages. I am still new to Thai novels, so they are a bit difficult to machine translate but I am getting the hang of it now.

I sometimes listen to danmei audio drama adaptations on MaoerFM. And in case of BL manga, if their drama CDs are available, I usually read while listening to them.

As for distinction between what's considered 'queer' literature in the west and elsewhere, honestly I don't care since I read everything. And I am always quick to notice the similarities. Here are some 'queer' works that might give you an idea of what I mean:

The wounds on Nalah are sun burns I wasn’t sure on how to draw them I may have made them too graphic so I’ll tag for gore and body horror

Also I dug for awhile to get the kanji for Taiga’s name but I probably got something wrong, its supposed to mean gentle/calm and river

I noticed on this reread that the misdirections indicating that Milo was the killer were fewer than I remembered.

““I just fething wish I could have got a bead on him sooner,” said Larkin. His voice was low, as if strained by massive emotion. 

“What do you mean?” Gaunt asked. He stirred up and looked back down the hall. Pain flared through his back, but what he saw hurt him so much more. 

Twenty metres back down the hall, face down in a pool of blood, Colm Corbec lay dead.” And Exhibit A in why I hate Lijah Cuu.

EPILOGUE

“Then the reinforcement fleet arrived, sent by the Warmaster. The initial fleet engagement lit up the night sky. A far greater and more bloody combat than is recorded in this account then took place. Over a period of weeks, the Magister’s forces were driven out of the Civitas, and extinguished in a final pitched land battle in the Stove Hills.” One of the few places that indicates that this is an account being written later. Each book opens with a quote from a historical text about the Sabbat Crusade, but that’s treated separately from the narrative itself.

“As history records, it would not be easy. But for the while, the advantage was entirely his.” And again, after a bit that indicates that the Crusade was ultimately victorious. It never says anything about the status of the Ghosts, though.

With the highly anticipated new Halloween movie, executive produced by John Carpenter and arriving in theaters in October 2018, about to begin filming, co-writer Danny McBride has just revealed a few new details about the project, mostly confirming what Carpenter already said, that the new film will in fact present an “alternate” version of events following the original 1978 Halloween, ignoring all existing sequels, and he’s really hoping it doesn’t “piss people off”.

Following last night’s series finale of HBO’s Vice Principals, the show’s creators McBride and his Rough House Pictures partner David Gordon Green will now turn their attention to Haddonfield and the upcoming return of Michael Myers to movie screens. Speaking to Yahoo today (Happy #MichaelMyersMonday!), McBride not only confirms what we already knew about the new timeline, but further confesses that he really hopes “we don’t f*** it up” for fans of the franchise.

Explaining how they got Jamie Lee Curtis to return as Laurie Strode, McBride says, “I’m a humongous Halloween fan, so when David and I got approached about doing this from Blumhouse, the first thing David and I said was, ‘We’ll come up with a take, but we have to pitch it to Carpenter. If he’s not interested, we’re definitely not into making this.’ And (executive producer) Jason Blum was totally on board with that. That’s exactly what he wanted to do anyway. So we came up with our pitch. We pitched to Carpenter, and he was into it, which kind of blew David and me away, but I still think nobody was really talking about Jamie. I think everyone was kind of on the mindset of it’d be a grab to get her, but no one really knew if we would be able to.

“So Dave and I just busted our ass on this script to really make that Laurie Strode character something she wouldn’t be able to say no to. When we finished the script, we sent it to her, and she said she was in. So we just flipped out. We were over the moon about her involvement.”

Further confirming what we already know, McBride says, “We’re kind of ignoring all the films past the first one. It picks up after the first one, but it’s sort of an alternate reality. It’s as if the first Halloween ended in a slightly different way.”

Expressing a refreshing desire to honestly please the most hardcore fans of the franchise, McBride says, “I just hope that we don’t f*** it up and piss people off. This is such a diehard fan base. You don’t want horror fans being your enemies because they show up at your house with masks on.

“We are diehard fans of Halloween. We’re watching all the sequels and where things have taken left turns here and there that maybe bites for fans, and at least trying to deliver what we would have wanted to see. Hopefully that will line up with most fans.

“I think you should be very scared. I mean, this isn’t a comedy at all. I think there was, like, maybe one joke on the page, but the rest is straight horror. So hopefully it gets in people’s heads and keeps them up late at night.”

Judy Greer was recently reported to be in talks to play Karen Strode, who is Laurie Strode’s daughter in the new film. We’re still awaiting official cast announcements, which should be forthcoming pretty much imminently.

Master of horror John Carpenter will executive produce and serve as creative consultant on this film, joining forces with cinema’s current leading producer of horror, Jason Blum (Get Out, Split, The Purge, Paranormal Activity). Inspired by Carpenter’s classic, filmmakers David Gordon Green and Danny McBride crafted a story that carves a new path from the events in the landmark 1978 film, and Green also directs.

Halloween will be produced by Malek Akkad, whose Trancas International Films has produced the Halloween series since its inception. Green and McBride will executive produce under their Rough House Pictures banner.

As I’m sure you are well aware, 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of the release of John Carpenter’s original 1978 Halloween. It is also worth noting that the film’s release date also happens to be Michael Myers’ birthday (in 1957), according to the original franchise canon.

MTSU Phillips Bookstore, now operated by Barnes & Noble College, reopened for business Tuesday, June 16, as the rest of the university began a Phase I resumption of more on-campus activity since moving to remote courses and work in March because of the coronavirus pandemic.

MTSU alumnus and new bookstore manager Natalie Karousatos said store hours will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday for the time being.

Because the Student Union will remain closed for now, Karousatos said the best entry way will be an exterior entrance for customers on the side facing MTSU Boulevard.

Barnes & Noble College was awarded the contract to operate the bookstore through a competitive bid process, but was unable to open in early April with the university scaling back on-campus activities because of COVID-19.

Coronavirus health protocols for MTSU Phillips Bookstore will include all customers and visitors wearing face coverings and social distancing — Karousatos said the store floors are well marked with arrows and signage to keep at least six feet apart.

“We finally can open our doors,” said Karousatos, who added the bookstore was able and will continue to operate with online sales (www.shopmtsu.com). “We’re happy to be opening, Barnes & Noble is very excited to be on campus and I’m happy to be back here.”

Karousatos (Class of 1991 with a degree in broadcast journalism) returns to campus after six months as operations and community relations manager at Barnes & Noble at Vanderbilt University. The Lebanon, Tennessee, native has worked with Barnes & Noble since 2005, joining the company when she lived in Oklahoma City.

The manager said the bookstore has a Champion apparel (T-shirts and sweatshirts) buy one, get one half-off sale and offers a competitive textbook price-match program.

MTSU Phillips Bookstore reopens operated by Barnes & Noble College MTSU Phillips Bookstore, now operated by Barnes & Noble College, reopened for business Tuesday, June 16, as the rest of the university began a Phase I resumption of more on-campus activity since moving to remote courses and work in March because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Madonna. Madge. Maddie. Mad. Mary, mother of Jesus. Whatever you call her, one thing is for sure, Little Miss Madddiepants has successfully survived decades in the public eye. Love her or hate her: she certainly has got one thing totally right; she reinvents herself. All the time. Even through the menopause.

He’s leaving.

My youngest, aged 18: off to uni. The last time I felt this type of anticipated pain, was when I drove my beloved border collie to the vets to be euthanized. That feeling of utter despair, (even though I knew I was doing the one and only right thing), I am reminded of now, in that I’m snatching every available second, to tidy his hair, stroke his back…get his food…knowing this will be one of my very, very last chances…end of an era….

Perfect timing: menopause right alongside your nest getting thoroughly emptied.

Okay my son is not dying; I’m being over-dramatic. But him leaving is, for me, another painful, albeit inevitable, life-changing occurrence. It IS a rather big corner.

What else would I want, though? He’s been successful enough to get to go to uni: well done me. Good parenting. Wahoo. I didn’t even encourage him to have a gap year. I could have maybe got another year out of ‘what’s for dinner?‘ or ‘can I have some money please?‘

But actually its not all about those duties you’re seemingly constantly harangued into doing….its way more than that….In my case..well…how the hell am I gonna cope without him?!

He looks after the (new) dog when I’m working; he helps me work my camera; he’s the sole, in-house (tremendous standard fyi) cake-baker; he even asks how I am. Okay, to be completely truthful, he has practically become my counsellor. I feel physical pain, in my gut, that he’s going.

My fluffy nest feels like its being turned inside out.

So why is Mary, Mother of Jesus (bet she was an incredibly proud mum) relevant to Empty Nest Syndrome?

Madonna is really interested in herself.

She takes time to work on her entire image. Sure, she has people to do stuff for her, but ultimately, she is the one asking for ideas on clothing, image and hair styles. She wants the best for herself. And why shouldn’t she? So she’s busy. With herself. And that help heaps, if you’re feeling that final severing of that strong, yet intangible, umbilical cord, as that ‘taking-to-uni’ day arrives. You need to pick yourself up and at least try and look good.

So, get your inner Madonna out and focus.

On you.

Its great that you’re not needed anymore. Come on; it is! You will now have a bit/a lot more time to consider some self-reinvention. Cause, if nothing else, it will stop you from wallowing in your own tears, and encourage you to rediscover YOU. Someone other than just his mum.

Mary had a ball

Maybe, like me, you’re realizing that it’s much less how you’re defined by others, but more how you’ve inadvertently defined yourself – “my son”, “my angel”….”my co-dependent”….”my rock” ..”my ‘he-makes-me-feel-needed-and-useful-and-stuff'”…”my I can’t fucking cope without him!”

I can. You can. Once I stopped crying; I drank a bottle of vin rouge while watching shit tv, I then decided that I’d better get to bed and wake up in an altogether more acceptable mood.

Upon awakening, I dragged out my inner Madonna and decided to work from the outside in. So my personal reinvention began with a fabulous fake tan.

It stops you from crying. Cry, and pay with streak marks down the face; therefore, keep it together bitch. The New York City Mission Society has been on the frontlines of the war on poverty for more than 200 years. The organization’s portfolio of educational, workforce development, cultural enrichment, and community-building programs make a positive, long-term impact on the City’s most underserved communities. Each year, they serve more than 12,000 children and families throughout New York City with programs, supportive services, and community events. On April 5th, more than 340 people attended the New York City Mission Society’s annual Champions for Children Gala at the Mandarin Oriental in Columbus Circle. The gala raised over half million dollars. Co-chaired by Jean Shafiroff and Katrina Peebles, the benefit honored legendary actress and singer Diahann Carroll and entrepreneur Don Peebles, as well as recognized lifetime members of the Mission Society’s Board of Directors.

The evening started with cocktails, followed by a program with dinner, music, and dancing. The Gala was emceed by WABC News Anchor Bill Ritter, a longtime supporter of the Mission Society. Performers included Kathy Sledge, from Sister Sledge; singer Alex Donner and his Orchestra, and students enrolled in the Mission Society’s free afterschool music education program, GRIOT. Mrs. Peebles congratulated the audience on a record-breaking dinner as the attendance was nearly 50% larger than last year and the event sold out. Donahue Peebles III took to the stage to present the award to his father. Before doing so, he mentioned his father’s many accolades, including his avid supporter of mentoring to the youth, serving as Chairman of the Board of the Congressional Black Caucus, serving on the Board of Directors of the YMCA of Greater New York, and so much more. Don Peebles expressed his gratitude for the honors and mentioned the three best days of his life, September 12, 1994 the day he married Katrina Peebles “the love of my life, my best friend, and partner in life”; November 11, 2002, the day his daughter Chloe Alexandra Peebles was born and “today April 5th – not only because I am receiving this award but it’s the day Donahue was born in 1994!” He then went on to wish his son a happy 23rdbirthday.

As the night went on and guests dined on a delicious 3-course dinner, former New York City Mayor David Dinkins presented legendary actress, Diahann Carroll with the Champions for Children Award. Ms. Carroll was the first black actress in television history to star in her own series, Julia, on NBC. Her career flourished as she starred in so many amazing films like Claudine, Carmen Jones, Paris Blues, Porgy & Bess, Hurry Sundown, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, and Eve’s Bayou. She’s also served as an ambassador and national spokesperson for Lifetime Television’s breast cancer awareness campaign and has been recognized for raising awareness about HIV and AIDS. Her speech garnered a standing ovation. It was warm and thoughtful. She reminisced about her time in NYC at the Mission School, her parents and growing up in the big apple. She remarked on the impressive diversity in the five-star hotel ballroom.

Among the notable guests at the event were the legendary Cicely Tyson, Gayle King, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr., and designer B Michael.
